The world-famous Ogoh-Ogoh competition and parades part of the Nyepi Festival, also known as the Balinese New Year, at the Regency level have been officially canceled this March. However at village-level  the parades will still be possible.

Tourists staying in Bali over the Nyepi festival will still be able to observe ogoh-ogoh parades in the villages.

Tourists are reminded to respect and adhere to the instructions of local Pecalang (village security officials) during all festivals, parades, and ceremonies throughout the year.

The period of complete silence on Bali will begin on Monday, March 11 at 6 a.m. and last through Tuesday, March 12 at the same hour. Everyone on the island must remain inside, turn off the lights, and be totally silent. There is a complete halt to all action in the outer world. Businesses close, schools close, roads close (except for emergency vehicles), and the airport closes for twenty-four hours. Don’t plan any activities during Nyepi, since you will have to stay in your hotel.

Nyepi Day starts at 6:00 on Monday 11th March 2024 until 6:00 on Tuesday, 12th March 2024.

KEY TIP

Visitors should check with their hotel and airlines about arrangements during this period.
